The Bridgette Mayer Gallery is pleased to announce its fourth solo exhibition by artist Neil Anderson. "Nightlife & The Divided Plane" will be on view from March 2 – 27, 2010, with an opening reception First Friday, March 5, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. The exhibition will feature large-scale, abstract oil paintings. Also on view in the Vault Room will be an exhibition of new plaster works by Jeffrey Peezick.
Neil Anderson's most recent series of paintings continues to reflect the artist's preoccupation with exploring formal elements of his medium, while introducing a new factor: the divided plane. By coupling two linen surfaces, Anderson creates a strict horizontal or vertical division through each composition, thus emphasizing the flatness of the plane. Yet, his abstractions utilize winding lines, amorphous forms and saturated pigment to build each painting's figure/ground relationship, with the shapes and textures absconding from the surface as the lines recede. Says Anderson, "My paintings reflect the stillness and resolution that foster visual contemplation. This is how I would explain my daily pursuit of formal perfection through abstraction."
Anderson will be exhibiting concurrently as part of the Philagrafika 2010 Festival in "C.R. Ettinger Studio Selections from 2000 - 2010", curated by Cindy R. Ettinger at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from January 29 - April 18, 2010.
