Exhibition Summary:

Madison Gallery presents Forms, new works by Michael Kessler and sculptures by Richard Erdman.

Exhibition Details:

The ethereal mystique of the natural world is central to the new works by Santa Fe based artist, Michael Kessler. By shifting to large scales pieces, the viewer can escape into the flow of line, space and form characteristic of Kessler’s work. The color used in this new work is also carefully adjusted and restricted. There is an abundance of taupe or what might be referred to as a “dirty-white” which has been juxtaposed with the clean austere white or red grid-like armatures. Although these colors are not necessarily new to Kessler’s work, in this particular context the contrasts have been sharpened and maximized for a greater effect.

Similar to Michael Kessler pursuit for organic movement, Richard Erdman creates abstract sculpture of both intimate and monumental scale in stone and bronze from his studios in Williston, VT and Carrara, Italy. His art is known for its vitality, energy, and seemingly light buoyant motion, as if defying the material from which it is formed. The power and life the artist bestows in his work, both daring and subtle, conveys passion and strength, deeply engaging the viewer. From the seemingly grounded to the truly ethereal, his sculptures express a vitality which transcends their temporality.
