Brancolini Grimaldi is delighted to announce our new exhibition Sleight by British artist Clare Strand, featuring recent and new work especially produced for this solo exhibition. Strand employs photographic, video and installation media to translate her key interests: the use of utilitarian imagery, and how it connects with the themes such as the paranormal, magical, humorous, or how the photographic image can escape meaning and understanding.

The exhibition will display for the first time the installation ‘Ten Least Most Wanted’ – a wry arrangement of ten vernacular images, chosen by Strand from her research scrapbooks. Also included is her new series Skirts, which features ten mysterious portraits of covered tables that invoke a feeling of concealment and denial.

Clare Strand was born in 1973. In 2009 she had her first major solo show at the Folkwang Museum, Germany, Essen, in conjuncton with her first monograph published by Stedil and Photoworks. She has exhibited in venues including Tate Britain; The Hassleblad Center, Gothenburg; Huis Marseille, Amstersam; Teatro Fernan-Gomez Arts Center, Madrid and The Photographers gallery, London. Her work has been showcased in numerous publications including Aperture, Vitamin Ph New Perspectives in Photography, Portfolio and Photoworks magazine. Strand will be exhibiting this year at the Victoria Albert Museum, The Courtauld Institute and The Northern gallery of Contemporary Art.
