Tayloe Piggott Gallery is pleased to present “Pasalubong,” an exhibition featuring the works of Jackson-based artist Suzanne Morlock. The works will be on view from March 30th, 2012 through May 15th, 2012. On Wednesday, April 18th from 5 to 8 p.m., Tayloe Piggott Gallery will hold an opening reception for Morlock’s exhibition. The public is welcome to enjoy drinks and food prepared by the culinary students from Central Wyoming College while mingling amongst the works of Suzanne’s first solo show at the Tayloe Piggott Gallery. Artist, Susan Thulin, will simultaneously hold her first solo show at the gallery.

Suzanne Morlock’s field of creative inquiry comprises the impermanent nature of sensory experience as well as that of the physical, phenomenological world. She explores the ephemeral realms of memory, composition and decomposition via tactile materials. The resulting art objects communicate the unstable tension ever-present in our transitional world. Morlock transforms familiar and often discarded elements like newspaper, cloth, mylar and recording tape to demonstrate the paradoxical elements of disposability and endless potential. Weaving new forms which teeter between fine arts and craft, Morlock boldly uses techniques historically subscribed to as "women's work" like sewing, weaving and knitting to reveal aspects of surreal beauty and alchemical whimsy. Her process of creating carries as much value as the end result, with the process functioning as an important teacher. With her wry wit and a developed sense of the surreal, Morlock approaches her art practice as an evolving inquiry into the ever-changing states of time.

Although influenced with early training as an artist in Los Angeles, Suzanne currently looks to the rural surroundings of northwestern Wyoming for a more introspective influence on her work. Having lived in Jackson for the last 20 years, Suzanne’s art has had a tremendous local impact and has earned her numerous awards including The Baer Award from the WY Arts Council, First Place with ArtWest Open and a Professional Development Grant from the WY Arts Council. Despite her local roots, Morlock has held 31 group exhibitions and 15 solo exhibitions since 2001 in Paris, France, Skagaströnd, Iceland, £ódŸ, Poland, Berlin, Germany and numerous locations throughout the USA.
