Continuing his investigation into Kustom Kulture and its relationship to art, sub cultures and self fashioning, Dzine will present his new project, Gyaru Bodega, a custom, pop-up nail salon at Salon 94 Freemans. For one month beginning on September 7th, the gallery will be transformed into a nail salon via the no-holds barred imagination of the artist. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a double-sided salon chair, station and portable sound system that will include personal mementos and artifacts of Chawanya Hayes, owner of The Nail Shop and Spa located in Chicago’s West Side. During the opening, a manicurist will be on hand to affix nails and embellish the fingers of Salon 94 visitors. Accompanying the chair will be an armoire covered with mirrors and finishes typical of low-rider car interiors. Dzine's wildly flamboyant, and meticulously crafted nails will be housed within. Also on view will be a series of sculptural canvases and an imposing custom-made chandelier made from the same materials used in his nails, while a photo booth will be on site for visitors to record their temporary hand decoration.
