Vernissage Thursday 13 January 2011 - from 18:30

The 35 year old swedish artist - renowned for his striking compositions consisting of objects of quotidian use (ranging from the tiniest articles to the surprising stacks of cargo containers whose interiors are filled with agricultural tractors) - will install a new project in the basement space of the gallery in an exhibition that will consist of a number of floor mounted sculptures, and an impressive site specific monochrome work of notable dimensions. The artistic research of Michael Johansson revolves around an almost obsessive collection and measuring of objects. This process leads the artist to his creations of heterogenous conglomerates whose multivalent significance is meticulously callibrated and always differs. Forms and colours seem to be inextricably entwined, welded together by some disconcerting magnetism. For Johansson, an everyday object like a chair seat represents a metaphor for a familiar space that must be organised and filled at every junction, interpreting the intrinsic nature of every juxtaposition.

For the Exhibition “ Se un giorno d’inverno un viaggiatore...” curated by Julia Draganovic, Michael Johansson will install an inedited project for the Egyptian hall of the Museo Archeologico di Bologna - presenting a site specific work of notable size. ( 27 January – 27 February 2011, BOLOGNA)
