Galerie Urs Meile at Art 43 Basel
Basel, Switzerland
14 - 17 June 2012

Galerie Urs Meile looks forward to welcoming you at our booth in

Hall 2.1, Booth P15

On the occasion of Art 43 Basel Galerie Urs Meile Beijing-Lucerne is showing a selection of recent works by Ai Weiwei, Andreas Golder, Hu Qingyan, Li Gang, Meng Huang, Christian Schoeler, Anatoly Shuravlev, Julia Steiner and Wang Xingwei as well as new paintings by Qiu Shihua. The artist’s large-scale retrospective “Qiu Shihua. White Field” is currently hosted by the Nationalgalerie at the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart in Berlin, Germany (until August 5, 2012).

Furthermore we are proud to present Ai Weiwei’s 258 Fake at Art 43 Basel. The installation consists of 12 monitors displaying 7682 digital images that the artist took between 2003 and 2011. Some of the images were published on Ai Weiwei’s blog, which was shut down by the government in May 2009. 258 Fake is an exceptional artwork, disclosing Ai Weiwei’s view on his artistic practice, his political and social commitment, as well as the playful moments of daily life. After his release from detention the artist revised the work which was first presented under the title Blog Photographs in 2011 in the touring exhibition “Ai Weiwei - Interlacing“ at Fotomuseum Winterthur, Winterthur/Switzerland; Jeu de Paume, Paris/France; Kistefos-Museet Kunsthall, Jevnaker/Norway (until October 7, 2012) and Museu da Imagem e do Som, Sao Paulo/Brasil (dates to be confirmed).

Art Film - a week-long program of films by and about artists during Art 43 Basel - will present "Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry". The film by Alison Klayman has it's premiere screening in Switzerland on Friday, June 15, 8pm at the Stadtkino Basel.
