Pierre Gonnord "Under the Skin"
April 17 - May 19, 2010
Opening: April 17, 2010, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
The photographs presented in this exhibition include two very important series from the work of Pierre Gonnord, UTOPIANS and GYPSIES. The characters from the first series are mostly from Madrid and each of them is part of an underprivileged lower class; in general elderly men, homeless and without family.
On the other hand, there are the Gypsies, almost all of them residents of the Sevillian neighbourhood 3000 dwellings (3000 viviendas), where this ethnic group is located, being absolutely isolated from Sevillian society. All of Pierre Gonnord’s characters aren’t being represented by themselves, but they are prototypes of the group they belong to.
Pierre Gonnord was born in 1963 in Cholet, France. From the year 1988 he has lived and worked in Madrid. He was awarded with the prizes L´Oreal Photography Award, Madrid (2003), Purificación García Award, 3rd place, Circulo de Bellas Artes, Madrid (2004). His works are present in the collections of University Salamanca, Spain, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, USA, Maison Europeenne de la Photographie, Paris and many others. He exhibited on many individual exhibitions in Madrid, Seville, Lisbon, Paris, Barcelona and a great number of big group exhibitions in Spain, Switzerland, Italy, France, USA and others.
Exhibition presented in collaboration between Galería Juana de Aizpuru (Spain) and Galerie Urs Meile Beijing-Lucerne (Beijing) and Caochangdi PhotoSpring.
Exhibition supported by Instituto Cervantes. This exhibition was featured during "Les Rencontres d’Arles" 2008 and was part of Christian Lacroix’s curated special guests exhibition.
