Jacob Hashimoto 'Armada & recent kite works'
May 17 – July 27, 2013

Opening reception in the presence of the artists, Thursday, May 16, 5-7 pm

The Galerie Forsblom exhibition of Jacob Hashimoto (born 1973) showcases the artist’s new kite installations as well as the installation, Armada, which displays a squadron consisting of hundreds of boats. Hashimoto plays with the possibilities offered by modern art, creating a captivating sense of space, illusions, and motion. He simultaneously instigates a dialogue between nature and mankind.

The centrepiece of the exhibition, Armada, fills the entire main hall. A mechanism gently sways a large fleet along invisible waves. Every so often one of the ships struggles from the common swinging rhythm due to an unexpected air current. The organic movement reminds of nature’s presence and the fact that people are completely under its power.
