Yvon Lambert est heureux d’annoncer l’exposition personnelle de Jonathan Monk: It’s a circus!

Dans cette exposition, une série de 23 tableaux monochromes est installée dans la galerie Yvon Lambert par une troupe de cirque composée de deux acrobates au sol, un acrobate aérien, quatre jongleurs, trois échassiers et deux mimes.

Dans un mélange de couleurs et d’énergie les peintures seront installées suivant une chorégraphie précise dictée par Jonathan Monk. La scène de ce cirque sera le grand espace de la galerie Yvon Lambert Paris.

Le public ne pourra pas assister à cette performance, et ne pourra que constater de l’effervescence de l’accrochage au travers les 23 photographies présentées dans la première salle de la galerie, selon les mots de l’artiste:

« the act painting will be almost hidden the paintings await to be activated. the paintings become what they are during the days before the exhibition is made public. they are nothing at the moment they are there to become something a magical energy will be added by people who are there to perform the magical act »

Un petit journal qui explique la genèse du projet sera distribué gratuitement pendant le vernissage.

Jonathan Monk est né en 1969 à Leicester, Angleterre. Il vit et travaille à Berlin.

Jonathan Monk 'It's a circus!'

Yvon Lambert is pleased to announce It’s a Circus!, Jonathan Monk’s fifth solo exhibition at Yvon Lambert.

In this exhibition, the artist will present 23 monochrome paintings, which will be installed by a circus troop composed of two acrobats, three juggler, three clowns and two mimes. These paintings are installed into the main gallery following a precise choreographed process dictated by the artist.

Neither the circus performance nor the paintings will be visible to the public; only 23 photographs in the first room of the gallery will document the installation. Monk describes this unusual presentation as an artwork in itself:

« the act painting will be almost hidden the paintings await to be activated. the paintings become what they are during the days before the exhibition is made public. they are nothing at the moment they are there to become something a magical energy will be added by the people who are there to perform the magical act »

A newspaper that explains the origin of the artist’s project will be distributed during the opening of the show.
