Henry Moore. Ideas for Sculpture    Oct 15 - Nov 14, 2008

Hauser & Wirth Colnaghi
15 Old Bond Street
London W1S 4AX
15 October – 14 November 2008
Opening reception: Tuesday 14 October 2008

Hauser & Wirth presents a major exhibition of important and previously unseen works from the Henry Moore Family Collection. This show represents a unique opportunity to see a number of early drawings from the 1920s and a substantial array of concrete, stone and bronze sculptures. Our Old Bond Street gallery will be transformed by Zaha Hadid & Patrik Schumacher, who have been specially commissioned to design the exhibition in consultation with members of the Moore family.

The exhibition features works with close family ties, offering a highly personalised view of Moore’s private world. Spanning six decades of the artist’s career, the show includes experimental figurative drawings, sketches and studies for sculptures, as well as the series Prométhée Sketchbook (1949) and the seminal sculpture Warrior With Shield (1953/54). Celebrated as the most important British sculptor of the twentieth century, Moore’s fundamental re-addressing of the human form, the alienation and darkness of his figures and his uncompromising vision continue to make him an abiding influence.
