As is traditional, the Galerie St. Etienne’s summer exhibition features RECENT ACQUISITIONS, while also recapping highlights of the past season.

Although top-quality artworks have become scarcer in today’s booming art scene, increasing prices do lure treasures onto the market—and the Galerie St. Etienne is proud to have secured a number of major new works this summer. Highlights of the RECENT ACQUISITIONS exhibition include a spectacular grouping of works by Egon Schiele, a watercolor portrait by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner of his companion, Erna Schilling, two seminal early watercolors by Lyonel Feininger, a major Paris-period ink drawing by Max Beckmann, a vibrant portrait by Emil Nolde, and an extremely rare watercolor by Jeanne Mammen. The exhibition devotes an entire room to American artist Leonard Baskin (of whose Estate the Galerie St. Etienne became exclusive representative last fall), and also features works by Otto Dix, George Grosz and Käthe Kollwitz, as well. In the area of self-taught art, the exhibition includes works by Ilija Bosilj-Basicevic, Morris Hirshfield and Grandma Moses.

RECENT ACQUISITIONS is documented by a comprehensive checklist, which is available free of charge by mail, or can be downloaded from our website: The accompanying essay contains the Galerie St. Etienne’s annual “state of the market” report, which this year discusses the rise of the “art star.”
