Serge Lemoyne: ...And The First Star    Oct 4 - Oct 27, 2012

In conjunction with the Lemoyne retrospective at Montreal’s Espace Création Loto-Québec (September 26 to December 9), the exhibition Serge Lemoyne ...And The First Star will fill three exhibition spaces at host galleries Lacerte Art Contemporain and Yves Laroche Galerie d’Art. The exhibition will feature works from the artist’s major series, including Bleu, blanc, rouge, Assemblages, Pointe d’étoile, Hommage à Matisse, Triangulation and Trou noir, to name but a few.

Since 2001 gallery owners Louis Lacerte and Yves Laroche have been bringing their passion and expertise to bear to put Serge Lemoyne’s work back into the spotlight here in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada. Over the years, the two have helped to preserve and showcase a unique oeuvre with a special place in Quebec and Canada’s artistic heritage.

Serge Lemoyne (1941–1998) ardently defended an art set on debunking the myth of the artist by casting a critical eye on his own creations, museum institutions, the academy, and the art community in general. Lemoyne fueled his artistic career with pictorial challenges and reflections on contemporary art through painting, installations, performance art, sculpture, and many other techniques. The work of this multidisciplinary artist is first and foremost a testimony to his desire to foster a lasting rapprochement between art and the general public.

Serge Lemoyne ...And The First Star offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and work of an extraordinary artist. Nearly fifty works will be on display.
