Tim Prentice: Drawing on the Air, New Kinetic Sculpture    May 1 - Jun 8, 2012

Opening reception Tuesday, May 1, 5:30 - 7:30 pm

The Maxwell Davidson Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Tim Prentice. This will be the gallery’s eleventh one-man exhibition for the American born sculptor. Prentice’s ultralight, intricately linked kinetic sculptures are always greater than the sum of their parts. The elements, usually aluminum, Lexan plastic, or wire, are arranged in an orderly pattern of systems, allowing them to move fluidly.

That fluidity is the crux of Prentice’s work. This show in particular draws attention to the artist’s intention – and ability – to physically illustrate the air moving around and through his work. The invisible currents of air push and activate his sculptures, and yet the work gives life to the air itself. Twisting and rippling, the sculpture and air exist in a symbiosis, relying on each other to reach their full potential.

Prentice’s work has been exhibited and commissioned for museums, galleries, universities, hospitals, airports, corporate offices, civic centers, and private collections all over the world. In addition to the new work, Prentice is releasing a new monograph, also titled Drawing on the Air, with a foreword by Nicholas Fox Weber, published by Easton Press.

Maxwell Davidson Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00am - 5:30pm. For more information and to view the exhibition on line, please visit our website at www.davidsongallery.com or contact Brittany LoSchiavo at info@davidsongallery.com or at 212-759-7555
