John Lloyd Young: Food for Thought    Apr 7 - May 7, 2011

BOCA RATON, FL (March 22, 2011) – Elaine Baker Gallery announces the upcoming exhibition of sculpture by John Lloyd Young. The exhibition opens on Thursday, April 7th and continues through May 7th 2011.

Tony and Grammy winner for Broadway's JERSEY BOYS, and GLEE's first guest star, John Lloyd Young is an artist who transforms the everyday into the unusual. Creating pieces that shimmer amidst the fluorescence of popular culture, Young seeks to elevate common food packaging by encrusting it with rhinestones. These ultra-saccharine works distract us with their seemingly opulent exteriors, much like a well designed box at the grocery store deceives a consumer.

Mr. Young says of his sculptures, "Every week there are different faces on the covers of the magazines at the check-out line. The enduring American celebrities are the consumer brands we continue to go back to again and again. I take the real "soup-erstars” off the shelf and put them on a pedestal."

For the past two decades Elaine Baker Gallery has been synonymous with contemporary art, and is a respected resource for international collectors, museums, designers and corporations. The gallery offers works by established and mid-career artists, while maintaining an inventory of strong secondary market work.

In January 2010, Elaine Baker Gallery opened a second space at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. This new partnership houses a major sculpture program and is dedicated to presenting museum quality sculpture for acquisition.
