Margaret Gerding's Exploring Maine continues her exploration of atmospheric New England landscape with her warm seductive color palette and textured brushwork. Her work explores a spirit of place through color, shape, texture and tone. She expertly leads the viewer into exploring the landscape by creating a window into a new moment in time.
Throughout Gerding's career her goal has remained constant: to capture a single moment in time. Her job as an artist is to observe with each passing second, how light changes, colors adjust, and how the slightest physical shifts occur in nature. Gerding states "Each piece is based on a real place, a moment that I have experienced and been inspired by. There is something unique about being alone with nature - a quiet that connects like no other. It is only this solitude, whether outside or in the studio, that allows me to let the landscape reveal itself to me. Some paintings require more elements of nature, while others call out to become abstract in their simplicity."
Gerding's work was selected for the Spring 2011 and Late Summer 2011 catalog covers for L.L. Bean, Freeport, Maine. In addition, her work has been included in the recently published book 100 Artists of New England by E. Ashley Rooney and New England Paintings, Edition 14 published by The Open Press. Gerding participated in Art in the Embassies Program of the US State Department in Botswana. Her work is in many private and corporate collections including L.L. Bean Freeport,ME, Maine Medical Center Portland, ME, Fidelity Investments Boston, MA and the Westin Hotel Boston, MA.
