Schuebbe Projects is pleased to announce LANDSCAPES, an exhibition featuring the works of eleven artists belonging of different generations. The exhibition explores the notion of landscapes and the symbolic representation of nature in painting, sculpture, photography and drawing. Through their work, these eleven artists approach the phenomenon of landscape and nature between fabrication and (in)activeness through which their personal and artistic relationships have been shaped and coined. The exhibition juxtaposes works from different parts of the world, from Swiss mountainscape at Dornach (Jake Zervudachi) to melancholic Chinese rural landscapes (Meng Huang), seemingly lacking any human presence. The ideas and relationships between men and nature are subject to Christian Schoeler's painting Untitled, 2011, in which nudity and nature are barely distinguishable through delicate brushwork and intimate lighting. In his painting Häuser, dating from 1964, Heimrad Prem created floating houses, addressing the artists desire to detach himself from the fabricated living environment of Germany in the '60s. Prem's work coalesces with those of the other participating artists and their visions of the meaning of landscape(s).
