Bruce Nauman: For Children/For Beginners

Sperone Westwater is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Bruce Nauman. For Children/For Beginners consists of both audio and video installations. These sculptures extend Naumans ongoing artistic practicedating back to the 1960sof incorporating conceptual and performative uses of language and the body.
This is Naumans first gallery exhibition since winning the prestigious Golden Lion award for best national participation in the 2009 Venice Biennale, where he represented the United States with the exhibition Bruce Nauman: Topological Gardens. This is Naumans tenth solo exhibition at the gallery since Sperone Westwater opened in 1975.
About the Artist
Bruce Nauman was born in 1941 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is widely regarded as being among the most important living American artists and has influenced a generation of artists throughout the world. Over the past four decades, his work has employed forms that range from Post-Minimalism to Conceptual art in mixed media, including sculpture, film, video and sound. Naumans work has been the subject of numerous significant solo exhibitions and is in prominent private and public collections worldwide.
