Brooklyn, NY: Internationally renowned artist Marylyn Dintenfass will discuss the genesis, evolution and environmental impact of Parallel Park—one of the largest monumental permanent art installations in the United States of the past decade.

Showing images of her work and the energy that motivates her image making, Dintenfass will expand upon her accomplished artistic career, focusing on her 27th site-specific installation. At 30,000 square feet, Parallel Park —celebrating its one-year anniversary—innovatively uses Kevlar and aluminum to create a narrative frieze that metaphorically and viscerally expresses the artist’s life-long love affair with the culturally iconic automobile.

Parallel Park was highlighted in the January 2012 issue of ARTnews, described by Donald Miller as having “raised a parking garage in Fort Myers, Florida to art status.” Dintenfass will discuss the intersection of architecture, design, sculpture, painting and printmaking in the development, partnership and transformation of this remarkable project.
Author, Aliza Edelman will also participate in the conversation and offer a contextual perspective on Marylyn Dintenfass’ artwork and discuss challenges of public spaces with the industrial nature of parking lots, an issue that has recently drawn major attention in the news media.
