Conny Dietzschold Gallery is delighted to announce the first exhibition with the Collective Island6 - Liu Dao, an electronic art
group consisting of performers, multimedia artists, writers, curators, and tech-geeks. Based in Shanghai, China, and founded
by Thomas Charv¨¦riat, a french curator, it started as an Arts center in 2006 to support emerging Chinese contemporary artists
who have a strong focus on collaboration. Liu Dao is a Pinyin phrase meaning "Island number 6".
The name Island6 comes from a small packaged flour warehouse at the Fu Foong Flour Mill surrounded by Suzhou Creek and
located in the middle of an empty field of debris which looks like an island emerging out of the sea. In 2008, Island6 moved
into the heart of the m50 district in Monacan Road, where it is located today. Island6 - Liu Dao was formed in 2009 as a
conceptual identity responding to the rapidly booming Chinese Art Market and is permanently based in the Island6 Art Center.
The Collective has ranged from 6 to 22 people since its inception and they are now exhibiting all around the globe. Island6 -
Liu Dao have appeared in international art fairs including Art Paris, the Hong Kong Art Fair, Sydney Contemporary, Scope New
York and Art Stage Singapore.
Island6-Liu Dao splashes technology to express the emotions and thoughts of the vivid and hectic environment of the 21st
century in Shanghai. It is cutting edge art that is constantly contemplating the future of Asia. For Island6 - Liu Dao, technology
is seen as a tool to help make life easier, to communicate in a powerful and effortless way around the world, to entertain and
much more. Using technology as their primary medium makes Island6 - Liu Dao magicians of an organic digital reality that
becomes alive, begins to speak, to dream, to conspire and to seduce.
