EDWARD MINOFF: SELENE
April 21 - May 11, 2011
Artist Reception: Thursday, April 28, 6 - 9 pm
405 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830
Edward Minoff's second solo exhibition with Cavalier Galleries will feature "Selene", a triptych depicting one continuous wave breaking cross the three square three-foot panels under a luminescent full moon; Selene was the moon goddess in archaic Greek mythology. The wave smashes the boundaries of each canvas, quietly building across the span of nine feet until it tumbles over itself with a foamy crash. The work will be accompanied by studies of light and bodies of water from a lake and a stream to a bay and an ocean, as well as direct study for the triptych. "Selene" is the product of years of study of the moonlight and of the anatomy of waves.
