Justin Fontaine Maury is a contemporary artist currently living in New Jersey. Justin has become known for his style of painting which bridges the gap between pop art and the commercial imagery that makes up the marketing world. Having worked in the marketing field for some time now, Maury seamlessly uses what he has learned on the forefront of commercial imagery to manipulate digital images for use in his work. From this point, Justin begins to use the structure of his work to question the construct of the commercialization of image or what it means to own an image. The title of this show “In-Appropriate(d)” is a play on words that gets to the heart of this artist’s concerns with the visual arts. Maury’s newer work has begun to push the envelope, beginning to wonder if there is a boundary on depiction and if that boundary can be, or has been, crossed.
