Cairo, Egypt

Ayyam Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its new Cairo branch, which will be inaugurated on October 19th with a solo show of recent work by leading Syrian painter Safwan Dahoul. Located in Zamalek, the city’s revered high end district that is also home to a handful of art spaces, Ayyam Gallery Cairo will be in the heart of the Egyptian capital, at the crossroads of its thriving cultural landscape.

Managed and co-owned by Hanan El Shafie, who left a career in fashion and design to dedicate her energy and talent to this exciting new venture, Ayyam Gallery’s latest location will bring its stirring lineup of painters, sculptors and photographers from the Levant to the forefront of the Egyptian art scene, adding yet another dimension to its already dynamic atmosphere.

Focusing on the promotion of the Middle East’s top visual artists, who will share a variety of the artistic trends that they have spearheaded in Beirut, Damascus and Dubai, El Shafie and Ayyam Gallery Cairo will also seek to engage with the developments that are occurring in Egyptian art, looking to its artists while reaching out to the expansive network of art lovers, collectors, gallerists, critics and cultural practioners that have made the city a regional art hub. This will also mean the consideration of the historical intricacies that have made cultural enthusiasts flock to the city in search of its modern and contemporary masters for over a century. Recently Ayyam Auctions has begun to honor this legacy by offering the work of such artists as Samir Rafi and Huda Lufti in its inaugural Dubai Sale.

“Still Dreaming” an exhibition of recent works by Safwan Dahoul, one of the Arab World’s most prominent contemporary painters, will present introspective portraits that resonate with breathtaking monumentality and profound inferences.

Since its founding in 2006, Ayyam Gallery has become one of the Arab world's leading art spaces. With a selection of cutting-edge painting, sculpture and photography that represents some of the Middle East's most exciting talent, the gallery has sought to promote the region's dynamic cultural scene at home and abroad.
