This fall, Nedra Matteucci Galleries is proud to present a major exhibition of work from one of America's most outstanding artists. For forty years, Texas-born sculptor Glenna Goodacre has produced a body of work both celebrated and admired. Recipient of honorary doctorates from her alma mater, Colorado College, and Texas Tech University in her hometown of Lubbock, Goodacre's career has focused on the creative challenges of the human figure. She is especialy admired for her exquisitely detailed portrayals of the entire range of human emotions and character through her expressive subjects, including Native American and classical figurative works, particularly Children. Goodacre has been awarded numerous important public comissions, including portraits of President Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. In 1997, Goodacre was selected as the winning sculptor in an international competition to create the Irish Memorial at Penn's Landing in Philidelphia. This marvelous work is comprised of thirty-five life-size figures documenting the history of the potato famine in Ireland and subsequent immigration of survivors to the United States. Her Vietnam Women's Memorial on the mall in Washington, DC, and her 1999 design for the Sacagawea dollar have added to her renown.
