EXHIBITION DATES OCTOBER 9 - NOVEMBER 28

GALLERY HOURS THURSDAY - SATURDAY 11- 5pm
& by appointment

Kiang Gallery is pleased to present the internationally acclaimed artist, Chi Peng, b.1980.

This young Beijing artist, known for his surrealistic staged photographs, has been described as “a kick-ass, anti-establishment artist, fully versed in the magic of digital media”. This is his first exhibition in Atlanta, coinciding with ACP.

Chi Peng’s recent body of work, “The Journey to the West”, was inspired by pop culture versions i.e comic books, Japanese anime and a popular television series of the famous 16th century Chinese novel.

The Monkey King’s release from imprisonment sets in motion the fabled Journey to the West and Chi Peng using the wonders of Photoshop, as the primary tool of a contemporary artist, generates his magical images of the Monkey King, who can change himself in flash into anything that he imagines, allowing him to supersede all enemies and obstacles; powerful metaphors for a young independent artist negotiating the environment he lives and works in.

KIANG GALLERY was established in 1992 and continues a challenging exhibition program of contemporary works in all media: painting, drawing, contemporary photography, sculpture, digital media, including a long standing commitment to Chinese contemporary art and Chinese photography, by emerging and mid-career artists.

In September 2007, Kiang Gallery reopened in a completely renovated new space in Atlanta`s booming Westside. Exhibitions run to five weeks and the gallery maintains a complete inventory of work available for acquisition. Kiang`s defining aesthetic, as well as the gallery`s conceptual orientation, reflect a high regard for cross-cultural discourse and non-liner perception.
