In A Pure Land – a group show featuring works by Nayland Blake, Martin Griffiths and Alyson Shotz.

In a time of communal unease, bad news, moral panic and government-induced fear, an invaluable role of the Arts is to uplift the spirit.

“It is simply a weakness of thinking in which one indulges when one assumes the existence of rigid, eternal atoms. What we find when our thinking deals with reality is that all material is perpetually dissolved right through into nothingness. People only speak of material constancy because as material perishes new material incessantly arises.Where material perishes in the human being, becomes appearance and then new material arises, that is where the possibility of freedom is situated and that is where the possibility of love is situated. Freedom and love belong together.”
Rudolph Steiner, 19th December 1920

Nayland Blake has been exhibiting his poetic and charged works in an international forum since 1990. Isis is extremely proud to include one of his new wall pieces for this show a multidimensional spell scratched onto the surface of space itself. These pieces derive from the emotional – and literal – archive of his Grandmother’s jewellery collection. As such, they are beautiful and eloquent expressions of the most important strength we have – love, in all its strange, delicate and inexplicable manifestations.
Nayland Blake has exhibited at Tate, the Whitney Museum, NYC and the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston.

Martin Griffiths’ recent move from painting to sculpture represents a shift into non-egotistical creation of structures that stimulate the harmonics around the axes of the subtle body, The purity of this external light balances and harmonises with our energy channels, inducing an internalising calm.
Martin Griffiths’ work is in permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Wales and the Cass Sculpture Foundation in England.

We are extremely proud to be the first gallery in the UK to present the spellbinding work of Alyson Shotz. Luminous Harmonic (2008) is – literally - a reflective, refractive explosion of variable planes of perception, inspiring us to consider ways we have not seen or can yet comprehend; ways which may just be an eyeblink away – a shift in consciousness.
Alyson Shotz’ work has been installed at the Guggenheim, New York; the Hirschorn, Washington D.C. and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
