Willem Kerseboom Gallery has the honor of presenting you with an exquisite view of Chinese contemporary photography during the month of October. The gallery will exhibit photographs by the artists Cui Xiuwen (1970), Yuji (1965), Huang Yan (1966), Yang Yong (1975) and Miao Xiaochun (1964). The exhibition will be held simultaneously with the 40th cultural festival Europalia of Brussels, this year focusing on China. Artists represented by Willem Kerseboom Gallery like Cui Xiuwen will have their works shown at Europalia.
Cui Xiuwen, who has been exhibited in the Tate Modern Art Gallery in London and the Paris Centre Pompidou, will be represented at Willem Kerseboom Gallery with works from the Angel series. The Angel series express Xiuwen’s experiences as a young woman growing up in the rapidly evolving economy of contemporary China. She focuses on the troubles of teenage pregnancies, a social problem which extends beyond the borders of China.
Also included in the exhibition will be a black and white work from The Last Judgement in Cyberspace series by Miao Xiaochun. Xiaochun built a virtual model of the Apocalypse by replacing each of Michelangelo’s figures by an image of himself and photographing the scene from different angles, supplying the beholder with different viewpoints. In addition to Willem Kerseboom Gallery, this internationally acclaimed artist is also represented by Alexander Ochs Galleries in Berlin and the Saatchi Gallery in London.
Make sure to get a pre-taste of Chinese (photography) art before heading off to Brussels and pay a visit to Willem Kerseboom Gallery from October 15 until November 8. For more information about these and other artists, please contact the gallery.
