Arario Beijing is pleased to present Wang Du’s solo exhibition “2008/8002 Réalisme noctambule”, the first large-scale solo exhibiton in China for Wang Du, a France-based artist. A site scene will be constructed in Space 1 and 3 for visitors to experience the present tense of reality and future, as well as virtuality and objectivity, with which his works will show a brand-new and ciritical visual world of art in the present historical and cultural context.

Globalization, media, information, genetic engineering experiments and electronics and high-tech have pushed humans into an era of overall “artificial evolution”. All religions, philosophies, thoughts and cultures have become self-entertainment for individuals and proved to be in vain for the humanity construction, enlightenment and taboos in the contemporary society. In China, an up-and-coming country in terms of “artificial evolution” and the degradation era, overall urbanization is the most prominent scene in its modernization (artificial evolution). The increasing urban areas and the decreasing land made China the largest construction site in the world, which is the collective behavior of the largest scale ever in human history. In these cities of the same style, cultures and historical relics of thousans of years vanished into nothing together with the smogs of the construction sites. In this virtual secen came the various social classes, fields, and groups of people deconstruced in the Chinese society, as well as a large number of foreign speculators in both business and politics. All of a sudden, China becomes a paradise with prosperity and business opportunities in the world.

The sleeping China, like a noctambule, now bursts to its feet, and moves swiftly. The late modernization is so fresh and exciting, so rapid but paradoxical, so disordered but effective, and with such a strong power to destroy regardless of the consequences, as if it would pour out the energy buried deep for thousands of years into the this world full of uncertainties.

In the “2008/8002 Réalisme noctambule” exhibition held in Arario Beijing, Wang Du will utilize image switching and transferring / objectivity - super-realism and the juxtaposition of time and space / virtuality – objectivity to bring on a perfect combination of the future visions and the present sights in Space 1 and 3, both a construciton site and a future archaeological site, and reproduce the grandeur of the “Réalisme noctambule” in contemporary China.
