Brooklyn, NY - Jun 09, 2007 Ch'i Contemporary Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of it's summer exhibitions, " ConTEXTual" and "Sfumato" two shows featuring the written word in art. Both exhibitions will run from July 20 - August 24, 2007 with a public reception on Friday, July 20th from 6-9pm at the gallery's Williamsburg Brooklyn location - 293 Grand St. The shows will run during the gallery's newly expanded hours: Wednesdays- Sundays 11 AM - 7 PM and Mondays 9 AM - 5PM.
ConTEXTual
For the artists in "ConTextual" words are an integral part of the creative process announcing either their own opinions on a subject, informing the viewer of known or little known facts or forming their own narrative within the imagery. The exhibition curated by Tracy Causey-Jeffery at Ch'i Contemporary Fine Art features paintings, sculptures and photographs which incorporate text into the media. Artists featured in the exhibition include photographers, Michel Demanche and Wanda Taylor Remington, painters Peter Calvin and Hee Sook Kim as well as sculptor, Steven Dobbin among others.
Sfumato
Sfumato in Italian means literally "Shaded off" and this descriptive phrase is the one which artist, Steven Perkins chose for the name of his newest series being showcased at Ch'i Contemporary Fine Art from July 20 - August 24th of this year. Mr. Perkins like the artists in the "ConTEXTual" exhibition, incorporates words or individual letters into his watercolor paintings which are inspired by the colors and textures of Italian walls. A public reception will be held for this exhibition along with the ConTEXTual exhibition at the gallery's Williamsburg Brooklyn location, 293 Grand St. from 6-9pm on Friday, July 20th. The public is invited to attend.
