Tracy Williams Ltd. is pleased to announce the second solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist, Jennifer Nocon. This new body of work includes large scale watercolors, a video projection and sculptures in felt, as well as, materials found in and around the abandoned auto glass factory which is her current studio.

Nocon continues her investigation of the various laws of attraction, repulsion and symbiosis found in nature and observes how we mimic those patterns in human behavior. Nocon’s largest sculpture to date, Gambusia Affinis Santa Barbara, recently exhibited at The Santa Barbara Contemporary Art Forum, will dominate the ground floor space. “Gambusia Affinis” refers to a fish which is introduced into lakes and ponds for the sole purpose of eliminating mosquitoes; however, these predators eventually eradicate all other species simultaneously. In Nocon’s sculpture, the repetition of fish scale felt shapes in luminescent hues engulfs the viewer as it both seduces and entraps. Gambusia Affinis Santa Barbara taunts us to ruminate on the human desire to regulate nature and the inevitable consequences of this interference.

“Bloodsucker” conjures up the vampiric tendencies which often evolve from narcissistic and sociopath behavior in man and animal. Nocon’s contemplation of organisms whose existence depends on allurement and the ultimate consumption of others continues in the remaining work, but with a twist. The outcome of a relationship with one of these creatures can be transformative whereby the loss of something physical, spiritual or emotional can lead to an awakening elsewhere. These sculptures and watercolors steer us from the seductive and mesmerizing to the inner core of the mechanics of attraction and our natural desires.
