Charles Cowles Gallery and Ameringer & Yohe Fine Art are pleased to announce joint exhibitions of HARRY KRAMER's new paintings. KRAMER injects the Abstract Expressionist tradition, which he clearly belongs to, with a contemporary energy. His densely painted surfaces reveal his dynamic relationship with the medium and with painting as an all-embracing activity. His work is empowered by absolute intuition. Spontaneity charges the brushwork, the mysterious markings, scribblings, and formal devices. In his latest canvases, he achieves a tension that is at once provocative and satisfying. Invaluable for their integrity, KRAMER's paintings renew the worth of latter-day Action Painting, of a truly American Expressionism.
KRAMER has exhibited throughout the United States, and his work is included in major public collections including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; the Detroit Institute of Art, Michigan; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
There is a catalogue with an essay by Michael Thomas available for sale ($5).
The exhibition will be on view at the Charles Cowles Gallery at 537 West 24 Street, between 10 and 11 Avenues in Chelsea. Hours are 10am to 6pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
