ROBIN PALANKER: Goddesses I Know
April 14 - May 27, 2005
Hunsaker/Schlesinger is pleased to present Goddesses I Know, an
exhibition of new works by Robin Palanker, at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, CA.
In her fifth solo exhibition at Hunsaker/Schlesinger, Palanker investigates the concept of goddess by portraying the women she knows. As the qualities of motion and physics are a recurring theme in Palanker's work, the vivacity of these figures is revealed by body language and activity. They are not posed by the artist but captured in an improvisational manner.
Like modern artifacts, these drawings are made on clay-coated wooden panels, using mixed media including graphite, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, colored pencil, and glitter. Palanker's goddesses are not emerging from shells or riding on clouds, but are real women, accomplished and compelling.
The show opens with an artist's reception on April 22 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The exhibition continues through May 27.
The gallery is located in the Bergamot Station Arts Center, 2525 Michigan Avenue, T3,
Santa Monica. For additional information call (310) 828-1133 or E-mail: hs.fineart@verizon.net.
