„Die gebaute Landschaft unserer Städte und Siedlungen ist ästhetisches Reservoir und Forschungsgebiet von Simon Boudvin. Urbane und suburbane Versatzstücke – „architektonische Ready-mades“, wie er sie nennt – dienten dem 1979 geborenen, in Paris lebenden Künstler zunächst als Ausgangsmaterial für hybride fotografische Stadtansichten, die ans Surreale grenzten und dennoch stets fest in der Alltagsrealität des modernen Hoch- und Straßenbaus verankert blieben. Das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Dekonstruktion und Verdeckung, gepaart mit dem Ineinandergreifen von Negativ- und Positivform, spielen in Boudvins jüngster Untersuchung gebauter Wirklichkeit in unterschiedlicher Hinsicht eine zentrale Rolle. (...)

In freier Abwandlung von Aristoteles’ Postulat, demzufolge das Ganze mehr als die Summe seiner Teile sei, ist das materialisierte Resultat exometrischer Transformation im Sinne Boudvins stets umfangreicher als der Stoff, dem es entsprang. Und wenn nur, weil sich das Nichts, das nach dem Prozedere des Aushöhlens und Auftürmens zurückbleibt, im gebauten Objekt nochmals um ein vielfaches potenziert.“

„The constructed landscape of our cities and settlements is the aesthetic reservoir and field of research Simon Boudvin draws upon in his work. Elements found in urban and suburban contexts – “architectural readymades,” as he calls them – first served the Paris-based artist, who was born in 1979, as source material for hybrid photographic cityscapes bordering on the surreal and yet still remaining firmly rooted in the everyday reality of present-day building and road construction. The tension between deconstruction and concealment, combined with the conflation of negative and positive forms, in different ways plays a central role in Boudvin’s latest investigation of constructed reality. (...)

In a free interpretation of Aristotle’s postulate, according to which the whole is more than the sum of its parts, the materialized result of exometric transformation in Boudvin’s sense is always more than the matter from which it was derived - if only because of the fact that the void that remains after the process of hollowing out and piling up is multiplied again many times over in the constructed object.“
