INfusion - New Group Show at FusionArts Museum
FusionArts Museum is pleased to present its next exhibit “INfusion”, a group show which focuses on artists who are dedicated to the art of fusion, the technique of melding or fusing the various artistic disciplines into another art form.
FusionArts Museum is a contemporary art space that prides itself on being the only space in New York City that is exclusively dedicated to the exhibition and archiving of fusion art; art that goes beyond the terms assemblage, mixed media and multimedia. It is an art form that had no exclusive venue of its own until now. Like FusionArts’ previous exhibits, this show will open the doors to an array of local and internationally based artists all of whom are “INfusing” new life into their work by combining painting, sculpture, light, sound, movement, performance and the written and spoken word. These artists believe that the future of art, be it politically, socially, economically, physically and/or intellectually is in the generation of combines, which allows for endless creative artistic possibilities.
The international artists who are part of the “INfusion” exhibit are from Japan, Cuba, Italy, Puerto Rico, Canada, Poland, China, Russia, and France. Many have never before exhibited in the United States. A number of the American artists being represented here have been creating fusion art on the Lower East Side and in the East Village since the 1980’s, way before these two
neighborhoods became fashionable.
The show is more playful than FusionArts Museum’s previous exhibits, and in particular is awash in color and structural organic forms. This is certainly not artwork that lies flat, affixed to the wall by a mere nail; this is art that protrudes out of the walls, out of itself and into the mind’s eye of the viewer. A quick glance will never do; a studied gaze is what’s called for here because there is always something else to be discovered in each and every piece.
“INfusion” will be on exhibit from June 10, 2004 through August 31, 2004.
Please take the F train to the Second Avenue station and exit on the First Avenue side.
Admission is free.
