ART…CHITECTURE is an exploration of the language of architecture through sculpture, painting, photography, video, print and installation. Curated by Bobbie Foshay-Miller, this exhibition features the work of twelve internationally acclaimed artists: ‘Asymptote’, Francis Cape, Stephen Dean, Richard Ehrlich, Sabine Hornig, Sonia Hulten, Erin O’Keefe, Julian Opie, Hiraki Sawa, Kate Shepard, Mark Shetabi and William Steiger.

With both direct and subtle references, the formal characteristics of architecture are of key interest to each artist in this exhibition. Through thoughtful selection and arrangement, the exhibition will draw the viewer's attention toward the relationships between spaces such as inside vs. outside, intimate vs. distant, and static vs. transitional.

Francis Cape quotes memory, history, and surface through a vernacular of traditional architectural styles. His sculptures are near replicas of cabinets and closets and are almost invisible in their unassuming practicality. The layering of sensation and meaning in this work touches on perception of color, space and surface, as well as architectural systems, craftsmanship, installation, and memory.

Berlin-based artist Sabine Hornig mixes photography with architectural sculpture to create highly detailed images of deliberately disorienting reflections. By subtly tweaking the most basic sensory perceptions, Hornig's work leaves the viewer to distinguish their place within the layering of real and reflected spaces.

Kate Shepherd's paintings are identified for their original use of color, scale and a delicate yet descriptive painted line. The reverberation of light in her work creates an ambiguous illusion of architectural reality, both poetic and mysterious. Shepherd inaugurated the Lannan Foundation artist-in-residence program in Santa Fe in 1999.

Mark Shetabi constructs environments behind locked doors. In order to expeience the work, the viewer must approach a door and look through a peephole. By utilizing the peephole lens, Shetabi simultaneously creates a sense of intimacy and distance between the viewer and the artwork -- exploring presence and absence, isolation, and mystery within a contained three-dimensional space.
