Artist Reception: Thursday, January 15th, 6-9 pm
Susan Street Fine Art Gallery is pleased to present, TRANSLATIONS, an exhibition of contemporary paintings and tapestries referencing the classical in imagery and medium. The landscape paintings of renowned artist, Wade Hoefer, reflect a reverence for the untouched vistas of the 19th century. Set in deep formal space, Hoefer's paintings are poetic visions of nature and solitude. The grand scale tapestries by sought after contemporary artists, Deborah Oropallo, Squeak Carnwath, Guy Diehl and Robert Kushner, bring a long overdue renaissance to this art form. Adapting the historic practice of weaving to modern times and integrating it with contemporary art has proven to be a potent vehicle using today's technology. The translation of paintings to the medium of tapestries captures even the subtlest details and the unique visions of some of the most important contemporary artists of our generation.
TRANSLATIONS runs January 15th through March 16th, 2009. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, January 15th, from 6-9 pm, in conjunction with Cedros Gallery Night.
