November 1, 2006 through January 31, 2007, D. Wigmore Fine Art, Inc. is pleased to present A Century of American Art, an exhibition of forty paintings recently acquired by the gallery and selected to represent each major historical style of art between 1850 and 1970.
Some of the Hudson River School landscapes in the exhibition are by Sanford Gifford, Worthington Whittredge, and Albert Bierstadt. The Impressionist and Pioneer Modernist styles are depicted through works by Childe Hassam, George Bellows, John Marin, and Andrew Dasburg. American Scene painting from the 1930s and 40s is represented by figures such as Dale Nichols, Rockwell Kent and Reginald Marsh. Examples of the Geometric Abstract style can be seen by Werner Drewes, Charles Green Shaw, and Emil Bisttram. The Geometric paintings of the 1930s and 1940s hang well with the 1950s and 1960s Optical Art and Early Abstract Expressionism, executed by Richard Anuskiewicz, Julian Stanczak, and Paul Jenkins. A catalogue is available for this exhibition, postage paid, for $35.00.
D. Wigmore Fine Art, Inc. is located at 730 Fifth Avenue, Suite 602, New York, NY 10019. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For further information, call 212-581-1657 or visit our website at www.dwigmore.com.
