David Tunick, Inc. has collected superb examples of the finest Piranesi prints for 25 years in preparation for a major exhibition. The exhibition, now to be mounted at our gallery premises, 19 East 66th Street, will span the eighteenth century Venetian architect/artist's career from his earliest etchings, a complete set of the Prima Parte, to examples of the imaginary Prison series, the Carceri, in first and second states, to prime views from the famous Vedute di Roma. There also will be prints from other sets and a newly discovered drawing on view.
This exhibition will be presented as part of the annual Masterworks of Six Centuries event that takes place every May in conjunction with eight other galleries in the neighborhood - Didier Aaron, Inc., Dickinson, Richard L. Feigen & Co., James Graham & Sons, Moeller Fine Art, Lawrence Steigrad Fine Arts, W/S Fine Art, and Zwirner & Wirth.
