Concrete Erections II: Only In New York
April 17, 2008 - July 31, 2008
In celebration of its 30th Anniversary, the Michael Ingbar Gallery
goes back to its architectural roots and proudly presents Concrete Erections II:
Only In New York. This group exhibition showcases several of our most
established artists, as well as selected new talents, as they share a subject near and
dear to all of our hearts- New York City. From each of their unique vantage
points, these artists paint our architecturally astounding city, resplendent with
diversity, personality, and intimacy that can be experienced only as a true New
Yorker.
Our city humbly offers itself as a muse to these artists, who then
transfer the passion of New York onto canvas with their brushstrokes of oil and acrylic. Voluptuous
curves are hard at play in a fantastical rendering of the original Municipal Asphalt Plant’s parabolic
arch structure. The flimsiness of playing cards gives rise to a structurally sound interpretation of the
Empire State Building. Whether it’s the grit and grime of our subway stations beautifully articulated
through meticulously rendered oils, or a rainbow of geometry entangling itself in an abstracted utopia
of Manhattan, there is a continuity and focus that is utterly, and found only, in New York.
Please join us in the celebration of our most extraordinary city (as well as our 30th
Anniversary) at an opening reception on Thursday, April 17, 2008 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. RSVP.
