CHAIM SOUTINE

Die Herausgeber des Werkverzeichnisses der Gemälde von Chaim Soutine, Esti Dunow und Maurice Tuchman, werden für die Galerie Thomas diesen außergewöhnlichen Maler in einer umfangreichen Ausstellung in Deutschland, dem Mutterland des Expressionismus, dem Publikum vorstellen. Dazu werden auch Gemälde aus privaten Sammlungen, die seit Erscheinen des Werkverzeichnisses entdeckt wurden, nun erstmalig der Öffentlichkeit in der Galerie Thomas präsentiert.

Es erscheint ein umfangreicher Katalog mit einem ausführlichen Beitrag dieser beiden Experten über das Leben und Schaffen des 1894 in Smilovitsji bei Minsk geborenen und 1943 in Paris gestorbenen Künstlers und mit einer sorgfältigen Präsentation der einzelnen Werke.

In Deutschland hat es keine umfassende Präsentation des Werkes von Chaim Soutine seit den Ausstellungen in 1981 und 1982 in Münster und Tübingen mehr gegeben. Deshalb wird die Ausstellung in der Galerie Thomas in München mit Sicherheit in hohem Masse Aufmerksamkeit auf sich ziehen.

Das Werk von Chaim Soutine weist viele Bezüge auf sowohl zur Haltung des Deutschen Expressionismus, als auch zum Werk von Van Gogh sowie zu den figurativen Malern Francis Bacon und Lucian Freud.

The publishers of the catalogue raisonné, Esti Dunow and Maurice Tuchman, will introduce in Germany, the motherland of Expressionism, this exceptional painter to the public in a comprehensive exhibition at Galerie Thomas. On this occasion also paintings from private collections which were discovered after the catalogue raisonné had been published will be shown for the first time to the public at Galerie Thomas in Munich.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a detailed catalogue with an elaborate text from these two experts which will deal with the life and work of the artist, who was born in Smilovitsji near Minsk in 1894 and who died in Paris in 1943 as well as the detailed presentation of each of the paintings.

In Germany there has not been an extensive presentation of the works by Chaim Soutine since the exhibitions in 1981 and 1982 in Münster and Tübingen. For this very reason the exhibition shown at Galerie Thomas in Munich will most certainly attract a lot of attention.

It is striking how much the work of Chaim Soutine relates to the artistic concept of German Expressionism as well as to the work of Van Gogh and the figurative painters such as Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, among others.
