Minimalism

American Minimalist artists from the 1960s and 1970s, such as Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, and Frank Stella, along with more recent international Minimalist artists, are represented on artnet Auctions. Important prices for Minimalism artworks include Sol Lewitt's 1993 painting, Lines in All Directions, which sold on May 25, 2010 for US$87,975.

Following the mantra “Less is more,” Minimalism emerged in the 1960s as a reaction to Abstract Expressionism. The Minimalism movement in art, as well as in architecture, design, music, and theater, was inspired by the notion of stripping down elements to their essentials to present them in a clean, spare way.
