Lot description
Zhong Biao was born in 1968 in Chongqing, Sichuan Province, and is unquestionably one of the most famous post-Modern artists working today who defined the Contemporary Realist movement in China. Biao’s "The Disintegration of Memory" is a visually dynamic example of what has made Zhong one of the greatest influences on the younger generations of Chinese representational painters. Here, real conflicting human emotions of disconnect from our dreams to reality reflect the common experiences of life in Zhong’s realistically rendered “fantasy-scape” scenes. Dramatic flourishes of reds and blacks ignite the sensation of a powerful loss of understanding as well as painful memories. This print is loose as issued, and in excellent condition.

Zhong paints his realistic figures upon a displaced background to denote a temporality of passing life and memory, and the transition from one realm to the next. In contrast, he renders his alternative scenes in vibrant aggressive colors to highlight the dichotomy of tempestuous existence of the mind and the human desire for control. Zhong has lived through the many tumultuous phases of Chinese history and here expresses an inner psyche regarding the past and future of China. Zhong graduated in 1991 from the Oil Painting Department of the prestigious Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, and is now an associate professor of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. He exhibits extensively throughout Europe and the US.
