Lot description
This work is unframed and in excellent condition.

"My Happy Baby-(Fruit Tart)" is one of the most accomplished and dynamic oil paintings by top emerging Chinese female artist Zeng Lingxin. Her famed "My Happy Baby Series" of paintings all explore the relationship between the desire and fantasy for material wealth and status, namely opulent jewels and a decadent lifestyle. "My Happy Baby-(Fruit Tart)" is a charming example of her surreal painting styles and narratives, here three women in bathing suits luxuriate upon half of a luscious pink papaya filled with ripe fruits of all types and colors as it floats upon a bright blue sea. The young women are, as always, depicted in miniature. However, Zeng's attention to detail is incredible, for example, the gesture of one of the women who sweetly holds two strawberry slices to her head intentionally imitating the 'rabbit ears' of a Playboy Bunny.

In turn, each woman is depicted in a markedly different manner, as far as dress and demeanor as well as hair and eye color, thus they are depicted both as individuals and also as caricatures, representing the "80's generation" of young Chinese women, a generation to which the artist belongs. What makes Zeng's super-saccharine paintings so alluring is that her work in more than just a pretty picture, but also a socio-economic commentary on the massive amount of wealth that the new billionaires in China now possess, and how disparate the economic status is becoming in China.

The artist was born in China in 1983 and received her formal training in 2007 with a degree from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Academy of Fine Art, Chongqing. By the year she graduated her paintings her already in three museum shows in China, in 2007 including "Strong Emerging Artists Exhibition", Doland Museum; "Three Art Academies' Artists", Zendai Art Museum, and "Animamix: From Modernity to Eternity", MoCA Museum, Shanghai China. In 2008, her work was part of the traveling exhibition "Young Asian Artists - Part 1", that went to the Asian Art Foundation, in Hong Kong, Beijing and Indonesia. The same year her work was included in group shows "Exhibition of Artists from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts", Today Art Museum, Beijing and at The Shanghai Art Fair. The artist lives and works in China.
