"Water Drop Untitled (Grey)" (2009) is a tour-de-force ink jet and color silkscreen print on paper by famed Chinese Contemporary artist Yang Qian. From Yang's celebrated "Water Drop" series of realist prints and oil paintings, this portrait clearly depicts a seductive image of Marilyn Monroe. Accumulated water droplets are rendered on the surface of the work obscuring her from total view, intentionally adding elements of reveal/conceal and heightening psychological and sexual tension as the viewer strives to discern Marilyn's visage in full detail, partially concealed by the water droplets that give the work its title.

Yang Qian (B. 1959) is a contemporary Chinese artist known for his powerfully aesthetic and diversified oeuvre of work. From his ‘Water Droplet’ series depicting intimate and unfocused scenes of women bathing, to his ‘Dual Paintings’ employing copies of currency and shredded magazines on canvas, the artist is incredibly unique in his approach to art. Yang Qian works to engage viewers with his work by challenging their perceptions, visually interacting with his pieces, and re-defining traditional concepts of painting. The artist has exhibited at various venues internationally including Eli Klein Fine Art (New York, NY), The Jam Jar (Dubai, UAE), and Today Art Museum (Beijing, CN), among numerous others.
