Lot description
"The Flight of Hair" (2012) is a stunning, large-scale realist oil painting easily mistaken for a color photograph of a woman in motion, by young art world sensation, Chinese Contemporary artist Yang Peng (China, B. 1984). This work captures and suspends a dynamic moment in time, the energetic movement of an anonymous woman in an outstretched pose. Her identity and nudity are concealed by the gesture of her arms and hands conceal, with one arm stretched outwards vertically, underscoring the vertical composition of the canvas and the movement of her long dark hair in the same direction. The conflation here of energy/tranquility, movement/stillness if inherent to the works of Yang, this being one of his most visually arresting and conceptually accomplished paintings, to date. This work measures 35.50 x 78.75 inches, is unframed and in excellent condition.

Yang Peng graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, Chongqing, China with his B.F.A. in 2006 and in 2009 he studied for his M.F.A also at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts.
