Lot description
Rarely presented on steel, this 1992 abstract oil painting by Wlodzimierz Ksiazek is exemplary of the artist’s creative style. Here the artist plays with the juxtaposition of thick and thin applications of paint, geometric and abstract forms, and two and three dimensional textures to create a dynamic and complex expression of the artistic process.

The paintings of Wlodzimierz Ksiazek (1951-2011) are reflections of the artist’s unmitigated dedication to the process and the act of painting. Taking up to six months to complete, Ksiazek plays with texture, technique, and dimension with an aim at advancing the history of art while conveying personal feelings and memoires often associated with Communist Poland. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Ksiazek studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, where he earned his MFA in 1975, before immigrating to the United States in 1982 as a political refugee. He continued to work and show in the United States and in 2001 he set up a large studio in Rhode Island. In May 2011, Ksiazek’s body was found in his studio. His mysterious death is still under investigation.
