This is an early, original gelatin silver print on Agfa paper by William Wegman. The photograph is hand signed, dated, and numbered in pencil verso from the very small edition of only 20. This work is presented in a museum quality, 100% acid free frame, matted with 8ply ragboard and U.V. protective plexi-glas measuring 20 1/4 x 17 1/8 inches. Both the photograph and frame are in mint condition.

Photographer William Wegman was born in 1943 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He is best known for photographing dogs, primarily his own Weimaraners which he dresses in various costumes and arranges in a series of different compositions. Initially, Wegman sought to pursue a career as a painter, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Massachusetts College of Art in 1965 and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1967. While teaching at California State University in Long Beach, Wegman adopted his first Weimaraner, who he named after the artist Man Ray, becoming the artist’s iconic inspiration. His photos have appeared in books, advertisements, and films, as well as on television programs such as Seasame Street and Saturday Night Live. In 2006, a major retrospective of Wegman’s work traveled around the country to the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Norton Museum of Art and the Addison Gallery.
