Lot description
Born 1931 in St. Louis, photographer, painter and sculptor Will McBride attended the University of Vermont (where he studied with Norman Rockwell), the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design, graduating from Syracuse University in 1953. After 3 years in the Army (1953-1955) McBride settled in Germany to pursue his photographic work.

Over 50 years and 18 books later, Will McBride is established as one of the foremost documentary style photographers of his day, specializing in "Rites of Passage" imagery, documenting the transition from childhood and adolescence to adulthood.

Will McBride is best known for his 1950's and 1960's photo essays & reportages for Germany's Twen magazine, including John F. Kennedy's 1963 Berlin visit to the Brandenburg Gate as well as McBride's controversial 1970's "Show Me" ("Zeig Mal") & "Sex Book" series, Apertures 1999 "Coming of Age" and his auto-biography "I Will McBride".
