Lot description
"Some Days No.5 " (2005) is one of the most powerful yet tranquil images by famous Chinese Contemporary photographer Wang Ningde (China, B. 1972). This image belongs to the artist's iconic "Some Days" series of large-scale black and white figurative photographs of constructed narratives that read as a film stills and typically feature highly posed figures. Wang renders a young Chinese boy sitting alone in contemplation at the edge of his bed with his back to the camera. The voyeuristic aspect of this image, caught between reality, memory, and fantasy, makes it one of Wang's most indelible images to-date. This photograph is in excellent condition, is edition 2 of 10, measures 48.4 x 64 inches (122.9 x 162.6 cm) and professionally framed to larger dimensions. Wang Ningde graduated in 1995 from Luxin Art Institute, China. Wang's photographs have been formally exhibited at select international Museum and Public Institutions, including The Asia Society, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Seattle Art Museum in Washington, US, Kunstmuseum Bern in Switzerland, and in the 2005 Lianzhou International Photographic Exhibition, China, amongst many others. The artist currently lives and works in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, China.
