Lot description
This mixed media work by Vincent Gallo comprised of painted metal mounted on wood, was executed by the artist in 1986. ‘Three Red Heads’ is a triptych of an apple, grapes, and a pear, framed by the shaped metal to look like fruit hanging in the window. With a rustic and tactile quality to it, this work by Gallo exemplifies his private aesthetic and uncompromising sensitivity to personal expression through a quiet sense of internal perspective.

Multi-talented artist Vincent Gallo (b.1962) is known for his diverse roles within the art world, participating in various ways as a painter, photographer, musician, actor and film-director. Seductively beautiful, Gallo’s compositions are decorated with elements of the artist’s inner psyche embodying feelings of anxiety and loneliness. Gallo’s career began at a very young age without much formal training, but since then he has received over 15 solo shows at numerous galleries and museums throughout the world, including a large retrospective of his work in 2002 at Japan's Hara Museum. Most recently his work appeared in the 2012 Whitney Biennial in New York City.
